What are Bath Bombs?

Bath Bomb Boxes
Whether for you, or to offer to your loved ones, I propose today to learn how to make a bath bomb . I hear you tell me deep down there: but what's she talking about? What's a bath bomb?
Before any explanation, I remind you that it is more ecological to take showers than baths! A bath is between 150 and 200 liters of water whereas for a shower of 5 minutes (that is to say, one cuts the water while one is soaping), the consumption of water rises between 60 and 75 liters of water. But a little bath from time to time, it can greatly raise morale at half mast, or relieve aches.
A bath bomb , is a big effervescent seal that is put in his bath before entering. You will find easily in the trade in the form of ball, cube, heart, flower, etc ... They can be colored, scented, decorated, flowery and even sequined. They are not used to wash, but rather to relax after a sporting effort, a day of stress...

Benefits

Bath bombs can also have beneficial effects on your skin depending on the ingredients they contain.
It is the mixture of citric acid (an acid) and sodium bicarbonate (a base) which in contact with water fizzes! The chemical reaction between the acid and the base produces carbon dioxide (and therefore effervescence) and a salt: sodium citrate. Depending on the size of the bath bomb, the effervescence lasts 1 to 2 minutes.

The Basic Recipe:

The basic recipe for a bath bomb is very simple, as you've understood, the two main ingredients are citric acid and baking soda. Then everyone has their own recipe, depending on their skin type and / or their desires and / or needs of the moment. To make bath bombs, you will need:

  1.     50% sodium bicarbonate
  2.     25% citric acid
  3.     25% clay or starch
  4.     Some pschitts of water

Personally, I particularly like clay, which I prefer for starch. Not only the clay has beautiful cosmetic properties, but it will also be able to serve as a dye, because we find the white, the green, the pink, the violet, the red, the yellow, and even blue.

Additions:

Then come the "additions", which will bring color, sweetness and scent.

Colors:

As I told you before, you can directly use the clays for their colors. But you can also use food dyes , or plant dyes like spirulina or matcha tea for pretty shades of green; turmeric powder for orange tints, charcoal powder for black, etc.

Sweetness:

Vegetable oils and butters are our friends! And the choice is vast! Coconut oil, which will be suitable for all skins (and which will also bring its fragrance), apricot kernel, sweet almond, avocado, hemp, to you to let your creativity burst
The sweetness can also be brought by milk powder , grated coconut , powdered oats , cocoa powder, once again to you to choose!

Scents:

You can use essential oils , unless the bath bomb is not intended for a child under 7 years or a pregnant or breastfeeding woman. There too, you will be spoiled for choice, traditional lavender, through citrus, flowers, etc ... You can even provide a bath of anti-cold bath with a few drops of essential oil ravinstara and eucalyptus.

You can also use aroma or fragrance (see samples of perfume), but beware, they contain water! And as I explained earlier, the water will react bicarbonate and citric acid! Can also be used as powder of orange peel and / or lemon powder.

Decoration:

Here too, the key word is: have fun! First with the shapes, depending on the mold you will use. Also embroider flower petals (lavender and / or calendula for example), or sugar decorations (which can melt in water). You can also hide a small floating gift inside (such as a small dinosaur for budding paleontologists), or a rosebud for romantics.
